Queensland Country Bank Stadium is committed to operating the stadium in a sustainable and environmentally responsible way to reduce carbon emissions and to play an active role in supporting and enhancing the local community.

Sustainability Initiatives

Container Refund Scheme

Queensland Country Bank Stadium encourage all staff and guests to place eligible containers into the easily identifiable Container For Change bins located around the venue.  These containers are collected by Reef Recycling in Townsville and recycled and repurposed.

Ditch the Flick

In 2021 Queensland Country Bank Stadium partnered with the Tangaroa Blue Foundation to run an initiative to assist driving behavioural change among smokers in a bid to protect the Great Barrier Reef.  Together we installed targeted directional signage, permanent and mobile cigarette butt bins, easily identifiable Designated Outdoor Smoking Area’s (DOSA) and generated conversations with guests.  This was a positive and successful project, which is still implemented at the venue each event.

LED Lighting

The venue has 100% LED lighting; inclusive of the sports lights; which assist in managing power consumption more efficiently.

Education and Training

The venue encourages all staff to represent our commitment to sustainability. Training is provided to all permanent and casual staff through inductions and annual refresher training.

Queensland Country Bank Stadium has a representative on the Stadiums Queensland Green Crew team.  This team is made up of representatives from each SQ venue and are tasked with identifying opportunities and initiatives to lessen the organisation's impact on the environment.
